Late start

A friend just reminded me
Of a public demonstration
Decades ago,
33 years to be precise
Listening to who then was president
Announcing the invation
Of far away islands
I was there, by a statue
With friends calling this idiot
A drunk, an intoxicated person
Sending our country down a crazy path
A path of war, where the other would be killed
Not him, the drunk president

And suddenly I realize
That one of those little heads
At the base of the white pyramid
Screaming
One of those heads
One of them
It was me.

July First

Unsolicited, unfriendly
the first of the month came
and left us alone
sad
naked

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

So long April ...

A good songs show
As he springs into his third season
All is good at home

A Fidel, mi otro Abuelo

Te fuistes cuando tenía nueve
Apenas pude conocerte
Supe de tus luchas y pobrezas
Tu bondad y entrega
Tu carrera tardía
Creo que tengo tu genio
Huraño, montañes
Las fotos nuestras
Son lo que queda
De los momentos que pasé contigo.
Y recuerdo la mañana
En que papá llegó llorando
Llovía en la ciudad de las acequias
Te fuistes con la lluvia
Como huyendo de tu encierro
Nunca antes ni después
Lo vi llorar.

The rain drop

The pleasure of walking
Under cold pouring spring rain
Is very short lived.

A mi Abuelo

Te recuerdo de repente en la noche
En la mañana y en la siesta
Hace treinta años que te fuistes
Y recordarte me duele tanto
Tanto como cuando te lloré
Solo en aquel río lejano
Solo en aquella noche de verano
Y el dolor se hace suave caricia
Suave gracia
Te fuistes pero estás
Paradójico.

Monday otra vez

The train stops
The grey station finale
How did I make it today?

Con mi hijo, feliz

Plantamos un árbol
Comimos panchitos en el calor
Caminamos por el barrio

Dos Gigantes

Sábado de trabajo
Descarrilado por el dialogo
De dos gigantes
En un video recuperado
Del fondo del tiempo
Como llamados por su partida
Neruda y Gabo
Poesía y novela
Intimidad y Bistek
Según sus palabras

Not Mine

A powerful enegy
A group planting trees far all
A sense of not owning

Greening

Newly seeded soil
Seedlings in spring
A happy sprouting tree

Nitenite

Seven minutes to midnight
In a hurry sketch a spring verse
Six minutes I am done

Conectado a Tierra

Out of the blue sky

today

My Nico asked

What is inside a tree

He climbs them

Hugs them

Smells them

But what is inside trees, Dadi?

I said wood to be tall and

Water for the leaves and

Food for the roots.

Seeing them still without leaves

He sadly realized:

Roots must be so hungry!!

En-tangled

Entangled mess
I cornered my life into
Two wait for me to unknot it

Breathe

I almost hit a biker
Today
Off the corner of my eye
I saw
A ghost
Through the windshield
Of the car on my side
Rushing on his bike
Across my path
Red for him
Just green for me
Today
I almost disabled a man
I breath not.

Pascuas

Easter came on the twentieth this year
Not that such shakes much in me
But hints at how much I have changed
From my early days.

To have or to have not
Separately dreaming the same dream
A decision of two is

A star was born...
Strong, firm, decided, one Spring
Yet later whithered

Not Safe

It is very important
For me not to play it safe
Try it, expand, it is now

Monday, April 14, 2014

Time to talk.

Honorable people of Ukraine
Have you heard of the horrors
Of the Yugoslavian desintegration?

Saturday, April 12, 2014

Silent

Near a quiet beach
My loves are far away
I cannot find myself

Friday, April 11, 2014

Buho

An owl in my yard
Under the spring moon
Does not know how lucky am I

Goals

A life chasing goals
A life pursuing goals
Charming delusions over the horizon

Calm

The boy is fast asleep
The mom is back and safe
All is calm and carry on.

Luminous

It is happening
Just more frequently now
That I get to see it.

I see it in his eyes
Suddenly, Spontaneously
A dash of light

His little finger points
As in tense standoff
A puff of air
A new understanding

And he runs with his new idea
Riding on wild words
Knitting them together
Conquering his world.

Sun

Gardening all day in the Sun
Forgot all about poems and rhymes
My Son got all my attention today
And my love, and my energy and my breath.

Snail Day

Slow day
Woke up with a slow whisper
Slow goodbyes
Slow nitenite
Saturdays are not
The blast they used to be

eARTh

Always been pulled
Misteriously by these forces
Earth and Art
Yet forced them
Against all odds
Transform me not
Time to find myself?

Dear Xavier High School, and Ms. Lockwood, and Messrs Perin, McFeely, Batten, Maurer and Congiusta:
I thank you for your friendly letters. You sure know how to cheer up a really old geezer (84) in his sunset years. I don't make public appearances any more because I now resemble nothing so much as an iguana.
What I had to say to you, moreover, would not take long, to wit: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow.
Seriously! I mean starting right now, do art and do it for the rest of your lives. Draw a funny or nice picture of Ms. Lockwood, and give it to her. Dance home after school, and sing in the shower and on and on. Make a face in your mashed potatoes. Pretend you're Count Dracula.
Here's an assignment for tonight, and I hope Ms. Lockwood will flunk you if you don't do it: Write a six line poem, about anything, but rhymed. No fair tennis without a net. Make it as good as you possibly can. But don't tell anybody what you're doing. Don't show it or recite it to anybody, not even your girlfriend or parents or whatever, or Ms. Lockwood. OK?
Tear it up into teeny-weeny pieces, and discard them into widely separated trash recepticals [sic]. You will find that you have already been gloriously rewarded for your poem. You have experienced becoming, learned a lot more about what's inside you, and you have made your soul grow.
God bless you all!
Kurt Vonnegut

The power of one

On the morning rush
To get through the door,
The dogs, the cat
The accident in the kitchen
The crying boy,
Sitting on the rail
A deep regret assails
Remembering, thou
That his lunch
Sits on the board.

A year already

The year rolled over me
Leaving joy and misshaps
Longing for gentle April

In the wintery waters
A turtle, dove.
And the dove flew away.

Thank You for a Great Month

To all who went into the labyrinth
The daily Riyaaz and Poems in hand
Happy workers' day

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

C'est tout, Baltimore.

It is about time
To chase each other's eyes
And look at what we have done
It has been a long time
Thirty days
Almost fourteen years
A blink of the sight
A wind-whirl through time
Of living, learning,
Giving and loving
Above all, receiving
It is a moment to move on
To close these verses
To pack the wagons
Saddle the horses
And move to another town.
Literally.

La Noche

An angel came down
He gave me a hand
He held firm
Stretched his arms
Dug deep into me
For the dormant self
The happy me
The latent force
And pulled hard
Strong
Until he saved me

Les Trains du Pays

Eclectic
Beaux-artsian
Perpetually reinvented
From a glorious past
To this post industrial
Being
Dysfunctional
Between the cracks
Of what is public
Of what is private
This building stands
Against weather
And unrest
As a witness
Of high ideals
And pedestrian anecdotes
I visit it daily
For now
And I stare
At its beauty
And I cannot
I really cannot
Understand how
How is it
How is it possible
They got the trains so
So
Wrong.

NapTime

It is a chilly
And sunny afternoon
Home is calm
And baby snoozing
Dreaming of far
Far away places
With his birdie friends
Chasing some fish
Rocking the waves

It's not

It is not a comet
Circling on a distant sun
It is not a paint
Swirled by an impressionist
It is a welcome back gift
From a pious passing bird

Storm

The wind hustles outside
Shaking house and limbs
Windows quiver and wail.
'Trees are moving a lot, dadi'
'Trees are moving'
And why do you think they move?
'They are happy, dadi,
That's why the move'

A mi tía.

Hace nueve años
Ella dijo basta
Nunca supe bien
De su vida
Y su fé
Pero siempre supe
Que amó a las tres
Y no encontró su salida
Su salida a pie
A la rutina dura
A la fractura de su ser
Las dejó solas
Tan jóvenes las tres
Pero dentro de ellas
Ella vive y crea
Y crea alegría
La alegría que supo ser.

un beso, Coca.

Steady

Steady step
Step ahead
Ahead and back
In circles around
Gayly forward
Nowhere in mind.

Anonymity

Watch people walk
Their paths in life
Leave art as gifts

Walk

Walk the doggies
Down the park
Memories flushing
Down my mind
Hope his soul
Rests in peace
We are all you Martin
And you little souls like him
Unfair the world we live in.

Silent Night

And dark night too
For another infant
who's little big innocent life
was cut short
today
As many in recent days
weeks
months
Hug your loved ones
In this silent night

Mind Escape

sometimes i feel
that i'm propelled forward
by a powerful tide force behind me
yet i cannot control or steer
overwhelmingly strong
built of family empowering and friend support
and own expectations
and sickening perfectionism
i feel i am not the one
at the helm
at the tiller
common place to be
a viewpoint
maybe i should break free
drop the camera
trim those sails
and embrace the wind
Chesapeake Bay,  Mind Escape on a Sunny Sunday

To Virginia, for intentionally unaware suggested the title
number eight, his favorite shirt
number one, our first baby
number two, he is a big boy now.

Rain

It is not the wind
Or rain, but passion for change
That moves our spring thoughts

Titles

Still Magnolias

Soon gone with the aprilian winds

In the sands of time

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

words take me for a ride
yet perhaps
as i'm not in the spring of my life
i read and i fly away
muffled
and find it hard to write
to concentrate
as not expecting anything
from the words
from the long line of words
from the long grid of words
but from time to time
i get a jolt
a volt
a not small joy
in suddenly finding
that i can learn again
and i take that invitation
again
from that word
for a ride

Next Morning

The Sun came up
Again
Surprised
Too fast
He runs in and out
Grapes on one
Little
Hand
Waving everybody
The other
But everybody
Is only me
Me thinks
He runs
To play
I run
To work
Separated
Far appart
At least for both
The Sun is up.

Run run run
Pedal pedal pedal
Train choo choo tchus
Breath
Tomorrow is another day.

Sunday, April 07, 2013

In between two moments
In between the lights
We live and we love
And we play and we cry
In between two moments
the dusk and the night
I find my peace
Where I found my heart

(to Tiki)

My Urban Explorer
Explorer of life
Early in his path
Opened to Life.
What Life
Has for him
We only can guess
Together we will walk
His first few steps
His steps few first
we will happily share
Then we will share
What he finds out there.

Thursday, April 04, 2013

I live as I am
My feelings wave and back
Like at dusk a murmur
A wave of life.
A weaving life
Such is what I got
I mesh love and work
Blindly as I fly.
Asudden my boy smiles
Lighting up the night.

Freak of nature
twice the twice
a month's rainfall
in some few hours
changes the landscapes
alters the minds
makes life hard for some
takes it away for others.
And for those others' families
my thoughts
tonight
my thoughts.
And my rage
for my country
that chews its people,
grinds them to a halt.

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

street view
same feeling always
april the second
nausea
sadness
tragedy
just kids
my age
1982
death
nonsense death
premature death
perpetuating
in time
of times
nauseating
my country

In this new April
walking out of the season
with the strengthen spirit
with all our angels
with our cold nose,
and the messy head
I pause for
things that past
things to come,
great things all.
But in silence and respect
for those that are gone
I gather in this
open space
to celebrate them all.
